We are in a time where we have never been more connected. Between phoning, texting, emailing, Facebook messaging, snap chatting, and tweeting (to name a few), it is incredibly easy and quick to get an up-to-date status of how someone or something is doing. Social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc) are consistently growing and don’t seem to be disappearing any time soon. So why are these different social media platforms in particular, appealing to the mass population? Why is everyone from kids to the elderly flocking to check their Facebook everyday, most times, multiple times a day? Why are businesses making sure that they are part of this new cultural norm?

  1. Easy to join: All of these platforms are easy to join. There is no cost, no long application process, and better yet, no one telling you that you’re not welcome!

  1. Easy to socialize/network: Socializing and networking has never been so easy! Once your account is setup you are already on your way to connect with people you already know, the millions of people you don’t know, and the businesses/hobby groups you are excited to learn more about. You can find your friends from elementary school, find reviews on businesses you’re wanting to check out, and find groups that share the same interests and hobbies. All of this is from the comfort of your own home!

  1. Easy to gather up to date information: People are flocking to the pages that are consistently updating their status. Even when you’re so tired of reading Aunt Betty’s posts about her crazy cat, you also can’t wait to check and read about what it was doing today! In the business world, people are following restaurants, clothing stores, musicians, etc. and get super pumped when they release new updates regarding menu changes, new inventory, new song releases, or new promotions. The “likes” from friends make people want to check out that place for themselves so they can be a part of the conversation and see what all the hype is about. It’s the new norm to check out a place on Facebook or Instagram before going there in person. Social media is the new screening process for whether or not a business is worth checking out!

Social media is not going anywhere. It’s the foundation for building relationships, growing relationships, and sustaining relationships. Are you a part of this world already or are you feeling a bit hesitant? Comment below with your views, we’d love to hear them!
